As we plow ahead into 2010 I would like to go over some strategies about what to do to promote your band after you have a CD out beyond the normal route of playing live and getting reviewed. There are many ways out of the box to help promote your band at little or no cost.

1)      All of the social media sites are for the most part free and a great way to promote your act. There is MySpace – Twitter – Facebook – garageband.com etc.

2)      Another great way to get some good P.R. is to align yourself with an afililiated charity organization. I have done so with the American Diabetes Association. I recorded Sugar Sugar and they used it for their National Diabetes Awareness campaign. I happen to be a diabetic so it is important that you really care about the cause that you try to tap into! I have also recently recorded a song which is a tribute to NASCAR and have done some tie-ins to see if I can also work with them. You can listen to it at www.jtrecords.com and click on the music tab.

3)      I also have used my writing skills to help promote my band by writing for DaBelly and  www.orlandobands.com as well. This keeps me in touch with the music scene and to be honest I have met some great people through these music sites.

4)      Another great way to promote your band is to get your own Web site and link it to as many other sites that have a lot of traffic.

5)      Jango has a service where you can pay to have a certain amount of spins of your CD on their site! This is a good market research tool and can also help you to connect to some people if you have about $1,000 to spend.

6)      Last but not least, get out and play……. Promote your gigs the best that you can and practice, practice, practice.

I have recently got many submissions for the label and want to thank all of you who have sent in your CDs. I am focusing on our new efforts, "Loud, Fast …Fun," due out in a few months by my band Speed Limit, so I won’t be looking at any new projects until summertime. Keep up the good work and keep on rockin’.
