As we keep moving into 2010, I have another neat way to promote your band at no cost and possibly position it for some instant success, as well as the hopes of landing some good gigs and prizes!

There are many contests for local bands put on by area radio stations and sites the Internet. This month there are two good contests that my band Speed Limit has entered. The first, at www.wmmo.com, is a
contest to be the opening band for Collective Soul at the wmmo downtown Free Concert Series. (Please go to the web site and register and vote for Orlando's own Speed Limit).

These contests give your fans a reason to get involved and really help bring attention and awareness to your band.

In this contest, they list your band, along with a photograph and oneMP3 song. From this posting, visitors to the site may vote on their favorite contender. This is a great way to play in front of a large
audience and get some great exposure for your band!

Another local opportunity for bands is the WJRR Earthday Birthday contest. (Go to www.wjrr.com and vote for Speed Limit in round two for us to win an opening slot for WJRR Earthday Birthday in May).
This is yet another great gig and will give a lot of exposure to the winner!

All you need to enter many online contests is an MP3 of one of your songs, a photograph and a Web site. You should search the Internet, as well as keep checking the Web sites of radio stations in your area
and genre to see what opportunities they have available.
