Tom McBride and the Whig Party is a diverse mix. The band has depth to their music and seem to be tight in format. If I had to compare them to anyone, I would have to say maybe Dire Straits and Bob Dylan with a little bit of Springsteen thrown in. Their song, "Cutting Up L.A.," off of the CD, "Like a Lion," is very reminiscent of this.

The band's home base is in Washington DC, although McBride has spent some time in Nashville and its influence can be heard in the group's style. I wouldn’t necessarily place them as country still. This is a CD that I would find myself sitting around the house listening to or going to a sit own club to enjoy a few beers with some friends. I wouldn’t be surprised to find this band's songs played as background music on "Californication" while Hank Moody takes part in his silly antics. Overall I found this CD enjoyable.
