As luck would have it after being able to interviewing
CAKE in July, and in the dead of heat performed at the
Mesa Amphitheater, that the would return to granted their
fan base here in Arizona with one last show before the end
of the year. On December 10th at the Marquee Theater in
Tempe, CAKE graced the stage as the only band. As usual
they had rocked the house and gave away a Mandarin Tree
this time around.
The crowd was rich with all ages, an excellent evening for
families to take a break from holiday shopping. CAKE being
the only band for the evening played two sets with an
intermission around 9:45 pm. It was wonderful to watch the
crowd dance and participate with the band. One couple
danced from the time they got there and when it got to
crowded they took their dancing out to the lobby area.
Cake is an awesome band…Simple yet complicated. Five guys
that are not more than what they are and yet hard to
classify the music they produce. Their music is unique and
it is truly a perfect blend that gives their audiences
what they want. There aren’t any bells or whistles, just
the band and a tree that they give away. CAKE enjoys their
fans and it is obvious that they show their appreciation.
I talked with many fans who have stated that CAKE is one
of those bands you will either love or dislike, but come
on…Who doesn’t like CAKE? It’s one of those foods that
what ever your taste sooner or later there will be a piece
of CAKE that will get your attention and you will find
that it has grown on you.
I enjoyed this evening’s show very much and I left with
one thought… I wonder if I can get them to compose a song
called ANGEL, then I would be able to have my favorite
piece from CAKE…
